Boat Around Mull from Oban

Departing at 0830 we head along the South side of Mull, past Loch Buie and through the Torran Rocks before landing at Iona (about 1 hour 55 mins). There is time to walk to the Abbey and look around the Village.

The route then heads up the Sound of Iona to Staffa to view Fingals Cave (20-minute journey time). Landing at Staffa depends on the swell and also how busy the landing stage is. In the right weather conditions, we are able to take the boat in to the mouth of the Cave!

We continue towards the Treshnish Islands (20 minutes) and if the Puffins are there (late April to early August) we drop the anchor and land at Lunga. We use a large dinghy to land; the shoreline is rocky so good boots are required.

After we visit the Puffins, we head through the Treshnish Islands and round the North end of Mull and into Tobermory. (1 hour 10 minutes) This is normally a quick stop for a look about and a toilet stop. The last part of the journey heads down the Sound of Mull and back to Oban for about 1730.

During the trip we may see Porpoise, Dolphins (Common and Bottlenose) Seals (Greys and Common) and Minke Whales. Sea Birds such as Gannets, Guillemots, Razorbills, Puffins, Shags, Cormorants, Oystercatchers and Sea Eagles. These are not guaranteed but do our best.

This trip is weather dependent, and we will give as much notice as possible if the sea conditions are unsuitable. Depending on the wind direction we may head the opposite way around Mull and stop at Tobermory first.

It’s best to have a packed lunch with you as the Iona stop is quite early for lunch and Tobermory is a bit late in the day.

Timings are flexible depending on how much time you spend at each stop, but we recommend spending most of the time at Lunga (Treshnish Islands) to see the Puffins.

Depart from Eriska at 0830, returning to Eriska at 1730.
