The Isle of Eriska Hotel, Spa & Island is pleased to announce they have been short listed in not one but two award categories in this year’s Highlands & Islands Food & Drink Awards.
2010 saw Eriska win the Highlands & Islands Food & Drink Environmental Award, and once again this year, they have been shortlisted in the Environmental Award category as well as the Restaurant of the Year category.
In its tenth year, the Highlands & Islands Food & Drink Awards aim to celebrate excellence and achievement within the food and drink industry by recognising businesses that are innovative, forward thinking and collaborative in business ethos and practices. The food and drink industry in the Highlands and Islands generates in excess of £1 billion per annum and supports around 30,000 full time jobs across the region. A full list of businesses short listed can be found here.
On behalf of all the team at the Isle of Eriska, Beppo Buchanan-Smith said, “This nomination is a great credit to Ross and his team both in the kitchen and out in the gardens, working to offer guests a truly unique dining experience enjoying all that is great about Scottish produce.”
Eriska’s Head Chef, Ross Stovold, also added, “It’s always an honour to be recognised within the industry. We hope to continue our development at Eriska over the coming years and strive to showcase Scottish producers and ingredients.”
The awards ceremony will take place on Friday 24th October 2014 in the Kingsmill Hotel, Inverness when the winners of each category will be announced.

We are happy to share with you Ms Burkitt's Editor's pick for Aspire last week;
"Despite the excitement of spotting a kettle of sea eagles during the day, it was in fact the stacked cheese trolley which caused audible squeals when it rolled our way after dinner. Try Prince Charles’s favourite Dunsyre Blue, or Loch Arbor if you can bear the smell of kippers.
You may blame this dairy indulgence for any subsequent dreams – but I can assure you the badgers (Bertie and Brock) who drop by the conservatory for bread and milk every night are real".
Eriska was yesterday Awarded its latest award by Visit Scotland of "Taste our Best". This is a new scheme both supported and backed by the Scottish Government which highlights properties which showcase more than 40% of their menu from the locality. Although apparently the locality to the customer ranges greatly but for ease in this excersise - and I am sure nothing to do with the push for independence- Local means Scottish!
However the scheme does not stop a simply awarding a plaque but also offers feedback to business about where they could make a difference Scotland of Food & Drink is a website that helps businesses identify other potential producers which may currently be anonymous and unknown. We were delighted to not only be one of the first to be recognised but more imporantly that this recognition aligns so clearly with our principles. Hopefully the scheme will take off and be a great success and that will require the customers to grasp and support it too.
A lovely video by Andrew Evans of the badgers coming to the steps for milk in the evenings. You may have seen them, if not come and see us when you are here to see when they visit.
