West Coast Weather - Week Commencing 4th May

Posted by Bertie Badger on May 4, 2014 2:24:00 PM

With forecasts of thick grey cloud and frequent showers, the weather last week left little to be desired to the residents of the West Coast. However, we found ourselves pleasantly surprised more than once when the sun fought through to give us the sunshine that we so desperately crave.

With the summer months creeping even closer we're hoping for a few more weeks of beach weather over the coming season, though looking ahead it appears that may be a little too optimistic.

Today: A mixture of heavy and light rain  throughout

Monday: A dry start to the day with rain showers appearing early afternoon and continuing for the duratin of the day

Tuesday: Looks to be mostly dry with sporadic rain showers and some sunny intervals

Wednesday: Heavy rain to dominate most of the morning and afternoon, with things drying up in the evening

Thursday: Following a dry night, rain is predicted to make a reapperance with some more sunny intervals.

Friday: Looks to be mainly unchanged with more showers or rain and periodic bursts of sunshine

Saturday: Rain showers anticipated to calm down and turn into a light drizzle that with continue throughout the best part of the day. Expect some infrequent sunshine.

Eriska's Hilltop ReserveIt doesn't seem the best of news for those working up the hill on the installation of our two new hilltop reserves this week, with an abundance of rain to slow them down.

If you're in the area you may be lucky to witness the progress first hand as you explore the Island (though perhaps grab a pair of wellies and an umbrella from the main house first!) and get your first experience our new self-catering reserves.

West Coast Weather - Week Commencing 27th April

It's been another pleasant week here at Scotland's West Coast, with frequent bursts of sunshine, warm temperatures and soft breezes bringing the streets of Oban to full life once again.

The days are getting longer and longer, allowing us more time down at the beach before witnessing the delights of a fantastic scottish sunset. With any luck we'll enjoy this weather for weeks to come.

Today: Starting off cloudy, with sunny intervals throughout the morning. Some light showers are expected from mid afternoon and will continue periodically through the evening.

Monday: Thick white cloud will remain for the entirety of the day, though things are expected to remain dry.

Tuesday: Looks to be another dry and cloudy day, with a brief patch of rain in the early evening.

Wednesday: Things predicted to turn a little overcast today causing a bit of an icy chill.

Thursday: More thick cloud to dominate, with moderate winds to accompany

Friday: Expected to remain unchanged

Saturday: The week is expected to end on a bit of a dull note, with periodic showers of rain throughout. Though some bursts of sunshine finally peak through the thick cloud.

Tralee BeachIt seems like the sun is taking a break this coming week, hiding behind an abundance of cloud and putting a hold on trips to the beach. But with the weather looking to remain mostly dry, there are plenty of other activities awaiting.

Visitors to the hotel this week may want to venture out for a spot of croquet on the lawn so you're never too far away if rain does decide to fall.

For those looking to explore all of the Eriska's wonders you may be lucky to catch a glimpse of the instillation of our first Hilltop Reserve which we're hoping to have ready for decorating by the end of next week.

West Coast Weather - Week Commencing 20th April

After what seemed like an eternity of the weather toying with us - teasing us with the occasional day of dryness, and even a spot or two of sunshine - Scotland finally broke through the barrier into suntan-lotioning and sunglass-wearing this week, giving everyone the Easter Weekend we all hoped for!

Boat at Otter Point

The shores of every beach in Britain is likely to have been bombarded by impromptu trips to top-up tans and here at the West Coast things are livelier than ever! With any luck we'll be enjoying the sun for a while yet, allowing us all to dust the cobwebs off our summer gear and enjoy the great outdoors!

lake at golf courseThough we are not completely free of those pesky April showers, the week ahead offers us ample opportunity to enjoy the fresh outdoors!

Those visiting us this week are in for a real treat: the sunlight brings out the vibrant colours of the Island's flora and makes for an unforgetable sight. The Cairn, in particular, will be worth a visit to witness the incredible 360° view of Eriska's surroundings out towards the Isles of Lismore and Mull as well as Loch Creran.

If you're in the area why not go on one of the boat tours that leave periodically from Oban and Port Appin: try your luck at spotting the infamous white-tailed sea eagle, witness the wonders of the numberous ancient castles that line the shores and bask in the beauty of the surroundings from the sea.

West Coast Weather wc 13th April

Posted by Beppo Buchanan-Smith on Apr 13, 2014 9:06:00 AM

I always watch this weekend with enormous anticipation firstly because of the London Marathon when runners look for weather - not to hot, and not too cold but just right - although having completed this once -(and never again) the weather was the least of my issues! But I do have sympathy with the 40000 on the start line and feel that every little bit helps. And secondly as the week ends this year with Easter I am reminded of a wonderful couple who used to stay with us through my childhood for Easter and they always- come rain or shine- would sit out on Easter Sunday and have tea on the Library patio so for them it would be nice to see a warn sunny afternoon and not driving rain"!

However after a damp and dreary winter any further signs of spring will be popular- but as I watch out accross the lawn today and see the daffodills in full bloom maybe - just maybe spring has finally arrived- the grass is growing, the floods subsiding and the birds are in full song so what has the weather hot in store?

Today: Some early brightness then becomming mostly cloudy.

Monday: Scattered showers across northern and western mountains in the morning, with longer spells of rain across the peaks, developing elsewhere by the afternoon. Strong westerly winds.

Tuesday: Mainly dry with some good spells of sunshine, just an isolated shower across highest inland peaks at first. Northwesterly winds continuing to ease.

Wednesday: Dry, sunny and pleasantly mild on  although chilly through the night- so keep heating on for one more week!

Thursday. Turning cloudier  with some patchy rain, mainly in the north and west.

Friday: Most places should be dry  with sunny intervals, light winds and perhaps a few showery outbreaks.

Saturday:  The driest and brightest day of the week but eventualy leading to increasing cloud and outbreaks of rain and freshening winds into Easter Sunday.

West Coast Weather - Week Commencing 6th April

Posted by Bertie Badger on Apr 6, 2014 2:28:00 PM

After our brief period of dry, near-warm weather the entirety of Scotland seems to be frequented by bothersome April Showers leaving us all pining for more sunshine.

Eriska Pier

Though the forecast does very little to lift our spirits, and things are looking to remain somewhat dull, the large collection of spring flowers shooting up around the Island have been enough to keep our sunny disposition.

Today: Sporadic heavy rain throughout the day with patches of dry and some sunny intervals in the early evening.

Monday: A dry start to the day with more heavy downpours in the afternoon and moderate winds.

Tuesday: Sunny intervals forecast for the duration, with brief light showers in the late morning. Though strong eastward winds persist.

Wednesday: Looks to be a dull and wet day, with heavy rain dominating for the entirety.

Thursday: More showers predicted with some sunny intervals in the afternoon

Friday: Things expected to remain overcast for a large part of the day, with heavy rain in the evening.

Saturday: The week due to end on a wet note with continuous rain forecast for most of the day.

Things are certainly looking dreich with large quantities of rain throughout the week, meaning we'll have to put our plans for barbecues and visits to the beach aside for the moment.

Though for those coming to visit the West Coast this week there is plenty still to enjoy in rain or shine. With Spring close to full bloom the selection of public gardens in Argyll and Bute are coming into their prime and would definately be worth a visit!

West Coast Weather - Week Commencing 30th March

It's been a great week for us, here at Eriska, with the sun making frequent appearences and reminding us all exactly what makes the West Coast so special. The unrivaled scenery of Scotland's Highlands and Islands really comes to life in the sunshine and has left many of our guests in awe.

Sunny Landscape Eriska

With last week's weather proving to be better than expected, we're hoping for some more luck to extend our pre-summer excitment and to offer visitors to the West Highlands something to remember.

Today: Sunny intervals with clouds thickening in the afternoon

Tuesday: More cloud and rain showers in the afternoon

Wednesday: Projected to be a dry day, with things brightening up later in the afteernoon.

Thursday: More light cloud throughout with temperatures peeking at 16°C

Friday: Things look to be mostly unchanged, with more cloud throughout

Eriska Spring Daffodil Although the week doesn't look to be finishing on the best note, there is still plenty to remain hopeful for. With temperatures rising and local businesses re-opening their doors, the entire Argyll area has been given a new lease of life.

For those coming to us in the coming weeks, we'd definately recommend you pack a camera to capture some of the stunning landscapes and spring flora that the Island adorns.

Though it may be a bit premature to retire the raincoats just yet. We're sure there will be some April showers to come - so best to be prepared!

West Coast Weather - Week Commencing 23rd March

Posted by Bertie Badger on Mar 23, 2014 4:30:00 PM

Following a week of rain and generally unpleasantness, we found ourselves being particularly envious of our neighbours in the south of England this week who have been enjoying clear skies and high temperatures for the last few days.

However, after facing heavy rain, wind and snow over the last week it came as a pleasant surprise to us this morning to wake up to some sunshine which has finally added some colour to the Island and will hopefully aid in clearing the last of the snow of the mountains in the distance.

Today: Clear skies and sunshine have dominated the day, with feeble showers of rain

Monday: Clear skies will carry on throughout the night and remain until late afternoon when thick cloud is expected to form will form with some light rain late evening.

Tuesday: After a wet start, the day looks to be mostly dry with some sunny intervals. Small showers of rain may occur in the late afternoon.

Wednesday: Projected to be another dry day, with the clouds clearing up late afternoon to allow some sunshine.

Thursday: White cloud will persist throughout, with some sporadic sunshine in the afternoon

Friday: The weather looks to remain mainly unchanged, however temperatures are expected to rise to a comfortable 13°C

Saturday: The week looks to end with more dry weather and some intervals of sunshine.

Though temperamental, the weather forecast is gradually improving and we're sure many, like ourselves, will be making the most of it while it lasts.

As April approaching ever nearer we find ourselves preparing for the beginning of high season. The West Coast of Scotland will once again welcome flurries of visitors to it's core and show off the amazing scenery, history and seafood that it has become famous for.

We just hope the nice weather will stick about!

West Coast Weather - Week Commencing 16th March

Posted by Bertie Badger on Mar 16, 2014 8:45:00 AM

Following our brief glimpse of sunshine last week, a wave of optimism has hit Scotland.

No longer do we feel doomed to suffer through days where darkness dominates the sky and strong cold winds hit our faces. The frost and ice that remains hidden in the shade has begun to thaw leaving the fresh beauty of Spring in it's wake.

Sunset from Bridge

But it's a long way yet before our battle with the rain comes to an end with the forecast this coming week leaving little to be admired

Today: Things are anticipated to stay quite dull, with dark clouds consuming the sky and showers of light rain throughout.

Monday: Another cloudy day ahead. Things expected to remain mostly dry throughout the later morning and afternoon.

Tuesday: Heavy rain showers projected to fall for the best part of the morning, with some brief intervals of sunshine

Wednesday: Looks to be another wet day, with more heavy rain and moderate winds

Thursday: Predominately wet, with a mixture of light and heavy rain.

Friday: More rain continues to fall, though we may see some patches of sunshine in the afternoon.

Saturday: Projected to remain unchanged, ending this week on a dreich note.

Though it may seem there is no end in sight to the dour Scottish weather, we implore you to remain hopeful. With summer looming ever nearer, it's only a matter of time before the sun becomes a more dominant feature to our days.

In the meantimes, for those coming to stay with us in the coming weeks, we encourage you to explore all that the area has to offer. With local businesses and visitor attractions coming out of hibernation our guests have more activities at their disposal than ever, and our team would be happy to advise on the perfect ones to fit the interests of each individual.

West Coast Weather - Week Commencing 9th March

Posted by Bertie Badger on Mar 9, 2014 5:26:00 PM

Eriska Sunset

After what seemed like an endless winter, things on the west coast of Scotland are starting to brighten up.

Though the rain remains annoyingly persistent, spells of sunshine are becoming longer and more frequent as the days go by and it won't be long before the cold and stormy weather seems like a distant memory.

The weather this coming week definitely seems a vast improvement on its predecessors and likely the driest of the year so far; though it may be a bit early yet to retire the raincoats and umbrellas as things are likely to take a bit of a turn at the end of the week.

Today: Today, showers of rain are expected to fall for the majority of the day, with some brief patches of dryness in the afternoon.

Monday: Things are looking to dry up significantly, with white cloud and sunny intervals reported to last all day.

Tuesday: Starting with a bit of a chilly morning, Tuesday will evolve into a bright and sunny day making it the nicest of the week.

Wednesday: Projected to remain dry, but cloudy throughout

Thursday: Some light rain will start of the morning, though will clear up mid-morning and remain dry.

Friday: The weather takes a turn, with light rain expected all day.

Saturday: Ending on a bit of a dour note with heavy rain dominating.

Weather Clock

Although we're not completely clear of the rain, the change is definitely coming and before you know it we'll be complaining we're too warm and hoping for a bit of a drizzle to cool us down.

Until then we'll be taking full advantage of the small amounts of sunshine we can get, using the opportunity to enjoy the outdoors and fresh flora and fauna - which is becoming more lively every week - and hope that our guests do the same.

West Coast Weather - Week Commencing 2nd March

Posted by Bertie Badger on Mar 2, 2014 10:38:00 AM

With the first meterological day of Spring behind us, we here at Eriska find ourselves eagerly awaiting all the associations of the season. With signs of new life slowly creeping all around the island the days of rain, wind and cold finally seem numbered.

Though the mountains are struggling to shake the remains of the snow from their tops, the days are getting noticably longer and it won't be long until the clouds open up completely to reveal the clear blue sky that we've been dreaming of since the beginning of winter.

View from bridge

But there's still a while to go before the reports of sunshine are upon us and the weather this coming week seems a true testiment to that.

Today: A sunny start to the week, with intervals of sunshine expected to last until mid-afternoon. Heavy rain will appear later in the day and last throughout the evening.

Monday: Light rain showers will fall periodically, though things will mostly be dry with a touch of sunshine in the afternoon.

Tuesday: Looks to be another cloudy day with some light showers.

Wednesday: Rain will dominate, with a mixture of light and heavy rainfall throughout

Thursday: Projected to remain unchanged, with more rain and moderate winds

Friday: Rain will persist another day, though things expected to heat up a bit with temperatures reaching 11°C

Saturday: The week looks to end on a wet note, with forecasts of rain.

sports hall

So it may be a few more weeks yet before we can retire the winter coats and wellington boots. Though it does look like our guests will have some opportunity to get out and enjoy the scenery without getting too wet!

In the meantime, for those coming to visit this week  we'd advise making full use of our indoor facilities, which offers a nice variety of activities for those who want to stay active as well as those who want to put their feet up and relax!
