Aromatherapy Awareness Week

Posted by Claire Soulsby on Jun 4, 2015 9:08:12 AM

We have illnesses we can over power and others we have to live with, body and mind. If we are unwell or down we tend to visit the doctor and we are provided with toxins and potions which we have trust in. Aromatherapy as a medicine has been around for many of thousands of years dating back to 2000 BC but it wasn’t until the late 1800s when French chemist Rene-Maurice Gattefosse burned himself and used Lavender essence to heal his burns. All around the world we have specialists and natural remedies that are created from the earth and have no chemicals infusion, for some this is a last resort but nowadays with the world of wellness ever growing and wellbeing thriving it is becoming more of a go to.

Aromatherapy is the use of essential oils, extracted from plants. It reacts with our bodies smell sensors, which is linked to the deepest parts of the brain which holds the trigger to our senses, memories and emotions, have you ever been emotional or some even hyper after an Aromatherapy treatment?  The benefits of using Aromatherapy oil is to improve our wellbeing from our skin's overall appearance and texture to our physical and emotional states. The essential oils are made up of very small molecules so they have the ability to penetrate deep into the layers of the blood, skin and body tissue, releasing muscular aches and sinus congestion, the oils also help to improving circulation, optimising the skin’s cellular renewal process. They help to combat our problem areas like acne, eczema and the skin natural aging. All essential oils are anti-bacterial and some believed to be anti-viral.

We use Essential oils in many of our treatments and we believe in the benefits they have, so whatever your body and mind needs or if you want to be transported to that special memory come and take the journey with us.

National Massage Day

Posted by Claire Soulsby on May 14, 2015 2:06:17 PM

Friday 15th May is known as National Massage Day, it is aimed at helping our society understand the positive effects of touch and massage. The term ‘Massage’ is an intuitive healing art dating back 4,000 years ago ancient civilizations including China, Egypt, Rome and Greece. In the late 1880’s it was popularised in the UK when Queen Victoria appointed a practitioner of Swedish massage to treat her rheumatic pains.

In today’s modern society massage is popular not only for relaxation and stress-relief but also for the many health benefits it provides. Massage is incorporated into many of our treatments at Stable Spa. Two of our most popular massage treatments are our Traditional Body Massage and Holistic Total Body Care.

Our Traditional Body Massage is a 55 minute treatment.  This treatment is a deeply therapeutic massage combining stimulating and long movements with emphasis on the back, neck and shoulders. Excellent for releasing muscular tension and fatigue created from daily life. I would recommend upgrading to our Aromatherapy Oils; essential oils are believed to have a powerful effect on mood by stimulating two structures deep in the brain known to store emotions and memory.

Our Holistic Total Body Care is an 85 minutes treatment. This all-encompassing treatment commences with full body skin brushing and exfoliation to prepare the skin, leaving it feeling soft and smooth. This is the followed by a deep body and scalp massage using a blend of essential oils chosen to suit individual requirements. This truly holistic experience will bring harmony to both mind and body.

We encourage all of our guests to use our swimming pool, spa pool and heat experiences before our treatments. This allows the body to start to distress and the heat relaxes the muscles, allowing our guests to enter a state of relaxation and wellbeing pre-treatment. Post treatment our guests are welcome to continue their spa journey in our Relaxation Room to slowly awaken and indulge in the views of Eriska.

Seaweed: The New Skincare Superfood

Posted by Bertie Badger on Jun 5, 2014 9:47:00 PM

In recent years, the want to replace artificial products from our day to day life has skyrocketed. People, more now than ever, are more health conscious and want to know what products they are washing into their hair, moisturising their face with and consuming in their food.

It’s becoming more and more common to find your conditioners, face creams and soaps filled with coconuts, almonds and aloe vera from the exotic corners of the world. Healthy snacks and drinks too are filled with colourful ingredients, full of vitamins and nutrients that are good for both internal and external health.

It may be a surprise to some that there is a good alternative right on your doorstep. Though not as glamorous, the use of seaweed in skincare products and in the kitchen is starting to show a certain popularity for the tremendous benefits it offers.

Seaweed in Skincare

Ishga Seaweed

Seaweed is also used frequently for many body wraps that are help eliminate toxins and body tension. Though a company based in Scotland, called Ishga, have developed a full range of products using seaweed which is ideal for all skin types.

The seaweed used in Ishga products comes from the Hebridean Islands of Scotland. They contain high levels of antioxidants called polyphenols which help provide protection against environmental damage and leaving your skin looking healthier as a result.

This month, our Spa are offering a special one hour Ishga facial, using seaweed products and light massage to tighten and tone skin as well as stimulate blood and lymph circulation, leaving you feeling refreshed and relaxed.

Seaweed in Food.

Though the very idea of eating seaweed may seem repulsive, you may be surprised to know that it is likely you have already eaten regularly in your lifetime. Carragheen gives a gelatinous substance when boiled, which is used in ice cream as well as vegetarian friendly jellies.

Though when we talk of the use of seaweed in food, we really do mean in its pure form! It is commonly used in Japan with Sushi and in miso soup, but with the western world becoming more adventurous with cuisine. Seaweeds such as Kelp are cropping up more and more, dried and powdered into a garnish that can be sprinkled over pizza, or used as a wrap for fish.

But it is the health benefits of eating seaweed that we really like to emphasise: while there are many different forms of seaweed that vary in mineral and vitamin content, all are high in dietary fibre, provides your daily dose of iodine and is almost as high in protein as other vegetables.

The Ultimate Father's Day Guide: 5 Unique Ways to say Thank You in Style

Posted by Bertie Badger on May 16, 2014 4:50:00 PM

Long has it been that the man of the household went to work to support the family and put food on the table while the mother stayed home to look after the children; in modern society the roles are a lot more equally balanced with dad’s job as a parent becoming a lot more hands on. But regardless of their parenting style, all fathers deserve to be appreciated.

It’s come to that time of year again when we find ourselves scratching our heads trying to think of the perfect gift to make them smile and show our thanks for a job well done. Though with just about one month to go until Father’s Day, there’s more than enough time to plan the perfect surprise that you can enjoy together.

A day out for a round of two of golf is a great way to have fun with your dad. Some alone time on the green with a little friendly competition gives ample opportunity to strengthen your bond.

It's not about what you get - it's about what you do. Though your Dad will appreciate a well-thought of gift, nothing beats a bit of quality time.
