The End of Summer

Posted by Claire Soulsby on Aug 18, 2015 3:53:45 PM

It is already getting to the end of Summer, although it feels like we have yet to experience it in Scotland. As it ends August and we begin to enter into September we see the begining of Autumn approaching with our trees becoming more colourful.

Not only does this mean our climate is going to drop - even further, it also means that our Eriska Experience changes a bit. You will not require your shorts at this time of year but you will need that warm knitted jumper your granny knitted you, and those wellies you swore never to use again!

So why not come cosy up next to our open fire place, or experience the wildlife in a slightly different climate this Autumn, Eriska is ready if you are!

Our Head Chef, Ross Stovold is just as excited as the rest of us about Grouse coming onto the menus at Eriska.

So why not make an experience out of this special occassion by staying with us for the night and enjoying our Michelin Starred food. Rates start from £202.50 per person per night for dinner, bed and breakfast!

Gardening Tips for Autumn

Posted by Claire Soulsby on Jul 26, 2015 1:00:00 PM

Everyone that enters Eriska will see the gardens and admire them. So we asked our Gardener, Dougie for some top tips.

As we approach the autumn/winter season, what can our guests expect to see here at Eriska?

Deer, Badgers, Pine Martins, Geese, Otter and Seals. Trees changing colour to amazing autumn tintsAutumn_sho_of_eriska

What three key pieces of advice would you give Eriska guests looking after their garden?
1. Regularly DeadHead Annual and Perennial Flowers, this will encourage more flowers to be produced.

2. Remove large weeds from your borders using a border fork and use dry sunny day to hoe the smaller weeds

3. Look out for greenfly infestations on your roses in the warmer weather, apply insecticide at first sign of attack

For those interested in being outdoors and nature, what are your ‘must visit’ spots on Eriska?

Shell Point: Amazing views of the sand of mull with seals and a huge range of seabirds including Sea Eagles.

Otter Point: Views of Lismore and Loch Linnhe, with Otters and Seals.

The View Point: 360 degree views of Appin, Lismore and Benderloch

Gym Life

Posted by Claire Soulsby on Jul 24, 2015 11:32:40 AM

There is a lot to love and hate about a gym, some people look at a gym like a 3 year old looks at a climbing frame, others look at it with a terrifying look for shock or displacement. For the gym goer who is new and terrified I have found it is about their knowledge of the body and equipment that can be the end of any fitness goal or health mission.  Following our developments at the spa we have introduced new equipment to ease our guests into gym life.

You can surf the net or catch up on your favourite TV or radio, it also provides endless programmes for a light jog to training for a Marathon or a Tough Mudder Tournament. I would usually direct our guests to our fantastic running routes around the island but unfortunately for the summer we are having our guests are choosing to stay inside. I then introduce them to my favourite gadget, on our treadmill you can jog, run or sprint on any road or path around the world, whether it be in the USA, Africa , Australia or even on the Isle of Eriska- you choose your path.

An Environmental Life

Posted by Claire Soulsby on Jul 20, 2015 10:02:21 AM

Within the Isle of Eriska we try to use only the purest of ingredients and help the environment when we can. We have now been shortlisted in the Highlands and Islands Food and Drink Award.

Within our bar we use the freshest products as garnish and ingredients and strive to make sure that everything that reaches your glasses is of the finest quality.

Our Head Chef, Ross Stovold has been working hard to ensure that al his ingredients are sourced either from our own gardens or as locally as possible. That is not only within our Michelin Starred Dining Room but also in our newly refurbished Deck Restaurant.
