Over the years we have been persuaded by clever salesman that buying more than one item creates such a wonderful discount that buying two would be the logical thing to do and ordering four would be the sensible option. So this was with the Eriska books but as the lorry creaked across the bridge to deliver them I soon realized that there was more to quantity discount than initially met the eye- especially when we had to build a false wall in my house simply to hide them away, although I can attest for the wonderful insulation qualities of 4000 books!
However one such opportu ity was more beneficial as when we last refurbished the drawingroom my father set off to find new carpets an returned with either little success in terms of design or such a high cost that we all agreed to postpone the work. Eventually he was talking to our capet company- Stoddarts and the designer kindly highlighted that we could have a rug woven to our particular specification and in the end the cost woukld not be too scary. We investigated further and concurred but when finally they were set on the loom they ley us know that having factored the set up costs in if we ordered more then the cost woudl increase by such a minuscule amount we would be fololish not to continue.
Any normal sensible person would consider such an option check to see if any rooms would benefit from a new rug and call it a day. My Father did all this and discovered that the Hall could take a similar size of rug and then ordered 4 allowing for any damage to the first two!! The two unused rugs have lain under my mothers house since they were delivered and this week we decided to replace the original pair with the new ones. This leaves two dilemnas, firstly they look very fresh and smell very new and secondly what on earth will we do with two vast rugs! Maybe the Donkey would like a new look for the interior of his shed?
