Seona and I have just returned from the Relais & Chateaux Congress in Lisbon where we were introduced to the fellow members of the association. In reality we had taken a long time to consider all the options and were convinced by other members and after discussions with several of our guests decided that we would apply to join them. In reality we knew a great deal about them but in effect there is no substitute for actually immersing yourself within them to try and understand what makes it all operate.
Established over half a century ago, Relais & Châteaux is an association of some of the world’s finest hoteliers, chefs and restaurateurs that has set the standard for excellence in hospitality. Relais & Châteaux has set about defining luxury hospitality by emphasizing holistic experiences that transport its guests, taking them on a sensual journey and introducing them to a deeper, truer understanding of the Art of Living.
The story of Relais & Châteaux began in 1941 when two former music hall entertainers, Marcel and Nelly Tilloy purchased “La Cardinale”, an estate in the Rhône Valley. In 1952 the Tilloys began recruiting other hoteliers and restaurant owners that shared the same level of quality and excellence and passions for fine cuisine and Art de Vivre. In 1954, this group of kindred spirits merged together to create Relais & Châteaux. In the beginning, there were only eight establishments along the road between Paris and the French Riviera. Today, there are 500 members that are a part of Relais & Châteaux and it is this understanding of the art of hotellkeeping that we believe makes it the perfect fit for Eriska and the congress has merely reinforced this.
Hopefully our ethos at Eriska is already closely aligned to that of the consortium but we will now have to spend time insuring that all around the hotel understand how it all works. having been inspected back in the spring and then again in the summer it has been a long five months keeping the election secret and at the same time planning for the future. So it is with a sense of relief as well as anticipation that we now look forward to the future working with them.

We are delighted to be working alongside so many well known names in the British hotel Industry and the fact that we are all individual and allowed to excel in different areas is one of the attractions of Relais & Chateaux . We look forward to a long and fruitful relationship but above all we look forward to welcoming Mr and Mrs Heath back to Eriska for their 20th Visit at Christmas.
